### Responsibilities
* You will exercise the Reliability Engineering process Navy-wide, performing Reliability and Reliability Based Sparing (RBS) modeling for ship platforms and weapon systems
* You will conduct analyses and assessing the effectiveness of previously developed Reliability and RBS models, for designated ship classes, mission areas and systems.
* You will be responsible for varied and complex engineering, and weapon system working group coordination tasks related to all types of shipboard mechanical/electrical/electronic equipment.
* You will collaborate with Government and private industry personnel at potentially senior levels as well as at the working level.
* You will consider technical, mission, safety, economic, and political implications of decisions made, as well as developing applicable policies and procedures as part of the engineering duties.

### Qualifications
For GS-7 level: In addition to the required education, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-05) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate one or more of the following:
A. Performing professional engineering work to accomplish developmental engineering assignments utilizing basic professional engineering techniques, procedures, and methods to complete engineering designs and projects and convey findings.
OR
B. Successfully completed 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement.
FOR GS-09 level: In addition to the required education, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-07) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate one or more of the following:
A. Performing professional engineering work developing engineering calculations, analyzing data, and using engineering judgments to draw conclusions on mechanical engineering-related tasks. Examples of qualifying experience may include: assisting or leading design/project engineer(s) on engineering projects designing, developing, manufacturing, operating, testing, or maintaining mechanical devices or systems; producing technical documents and reports related to mechanical engineering projects supporting the design or renovation of facilities; and/or gathering information concerning project scope, location, available space, accessibility of utilities, or impacts of proposed facility/equipment.
OR
B. Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree.
OR
C. Successfully completed two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT (one or more of the following)
A. Successfully completed a professional engineering degree from an ABET-accredited (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) college or university.
B. Successfully completed a professional engineering degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics.
C. Have a combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a professional engineering degree. Completed a Professional Engineering Registration to demonstrate the adequacy of my education and experience.
D. Have a combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a professional engineering degree. Successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, which demonstrates the adequacy of my education and experience.
E. Successfully completed a degree with at least 60 semester hours of courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, and in professional engineering curriculum (as described in response 'B' above).
F. Successfully completed a degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, (e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology) and have at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. (Note to Applicants: Please see the Qualifications & Education sections of this announcement for a link to the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) Individual Occupational Requirements. OPM guidance indicates that there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience. This training plan or experience must be well documented and provided at time of application.)
