The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

**Scope of position:**

+ Provide engineering-level production support to manufacturing operations

+ Utilizes process engineering skillset (process data analysis, root cause, hypothesis testing, etc.) to solve complex problems and improve efficiency

+ Provide engineering expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing issues

+ Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts

+ Able to run a cross-functional team to solve complex manufacturing problems or product/process development activities

+ Develop and maintain systems to monitor and proactively address process issues

+ Lead and/or support projects involving cost reduction, process optimization, process capability and new technology migrations into the plant

+ Develop and update engineering and operations documentation

+ Provide training for operations workforce regarding equipment or operations changes

+ Work with other team members and departments to ensure that product output at each process step meets or exceeds manufacturing budgets and goals

+ Develop subject-matter expertise of material, process and/or equipment in focused areas of manufacturing and engineering

+ Develop and use project plans and timelines to achieve project goals without sacrificing safety, intellectual property, or quality

+ Actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects


+ Minimal travel, 2-3 US based trips per year

**Hours of work/work schedule: (Typical Schedule)**

+ 40-50 hrs/week, Day shift

**Education and Experience:**

+ Bachelor's Degree required. Major in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or Glass/Ceramic Engineering highly preferred.

+ 5+ years of engineering or manufacturing experience

**Required Skills:**

+ Ability to use the scientific method and engineering principles to solve complex problems

+ Must have a desire to analyze and interpret data

+ Ability to work with cross-functional teams

+ Willingness to interact with others and actively seek out answers

+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills

+ Ability to work with minimal supervision (can plan / organize their activities based on objectives)

+ Ability to perform process audits

+ Knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC / DESGN) or other problem solving methodology a must

+ Ability to translate engineering solutions to process requirements that deliver and/or improve performance criteria

+ Ability to write experiment plans and reports

+ Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis

+ MS Office; particularly Word, Access and Excel; ability to build queries, set up spreadsheets with formulas etc

**Desired Skills:**

+ 5 years of Manufacturing Engineering experience

+ Solid understanding of Process Control & Process Discipline (PCPD)

+ Has the ability to do statistical analysis on large data sets and draw conclusions from this analysis to make sound Engineering decisions

+ Understand flow of information and material through the manufacturing process

+ Provide process related instruction and/or training, if necessary

+ Tracking and communications of product line critical to quality metrics
